Why most resolutions don’t last and what does

Living Unmuted Insider

Real stories. Real advice.

Happy New Year friend!

Every January, we are told to decide who we will be and then prove it through discipline and willpower.

And yet, most people already know how this story goes.

Roughly 80 percent of New Year’s resolutions do not last past February.

Not because people are lazy.
Not because they lack motivation.

But because we are taught to start in the wrong place.

Most change efforts begin with power.
Goals. Pressure. Control. Force.

Over time, I have learned that lasting change begins somewhere quieter.

The framework I return to again and again is simple.

Presence. Alignment. Power.

Presence is where everything starts.
It is the ability to be in your body without bracing. To notice what is actually happening instead of rushing to fix it. Without presence, the nervous system stays in survival, and change cannot settle.

Alignment comes next.
This is where your inner world begins to match your values. Where your voice, choices, and direction start pointing the same way. Alignment is not about doing more. It is about doing what is true.

Only then does power become sustainable.
Power that is steady instead of urgent. Power that does not require self abandonment to maintain.

Most people try to reverse this order.
And then blame themselves when it does not work.

As we step into a new year, I am less interested in resolution and more interested in orientation.

Where are you facing.
What feels steady.
What is actually ready to change.

In a couple of weeks, I will be opening registration for a workshop that goes much deeper into this process and how to apply it in real life. For today, I simply wanted to offer a different starting point.

There is no rush.
And nothing wrong with beginning quietly.

Wishing you a grounded start to this new year.

With warmth,
Kimberlie
