When you’re not okay

Hey beautiful friend,

Some days don’t need a plan.
They don’t need answers or clarity or momentum.

Some days you’re just… not okay.

And the hardest part is that we’ve been taught that not being okay is something to fix or power through instead of something to meet with care.

But here’s what I believe matters most on hard days:

Allow yourself to feel the hard with compassion, without sitting alone in the dark with it.

Because when we allow ourselves to dwell in the dark without support, that’s often when we lose ourselves. Not because we’re weak, but because we were never meant to carry pain in isolation.

The goal isn’t to escape what you’re feeling.
And it isn’t to force your way toward the light.

It’s to let the hard move.

To stay present while it passes through instead of asking it to disappear.
To offer yourself warmth, steadiness, or contact so the feeling can soften in its own time.

This is how we feel our way forward, not think our way out.

The light at the end of the tunnel doesn’t need to be chased.
It shows up naturally when we stop bracing against the dark and stop collapsing into it.

If it helps, here are a few places I sometimes land when I’m not okay.
Not as rules. Not as requirements. Just gentle options.

Sometimes I put on one of my protocols.
Not to change how I feel, but to let my nervous system know it doesn’t have to carry everything alone.

Sometimes I wrap myself in a blanket and let the world be quiet for a bit.

Sometimes I take a bath or go for a slow walk.
No goal. No processing. Just warmth or movement.

And sometimes I do none of these.
Because even choosing can feel like too much.

There is no right response to a hard day.
Only what feels kind and doable in the moment.

If today is heavy, you’re not behind.
You’re not broken.
You’re responding.

You don’t have to rush.
You don’t have to stay.
You just have to stay with yourself.

With care,
Kimberlie
